Mizuna () ズ ナ (水)), “water vegetables”), kyona, Japanese mustard vegetables, or spider mustard, is a cultivation of the Brassica rapa variety niposinica.
With a slightly spicy, slightly peppery taste but not as much as e.g. the roka.
In cooking it is used in potatoes, soups, and Japanese hot dishes. They can also be combined-cooked very nicely with meat.
The BBC broadcasts described it:
It is not only good for food, it is also quite nice decorative, with shiny, toothed, dark green leaves and narrow white stems, which look good in flower beds but also as a border. It is intense, adaptable and easy to grow in most soils. Mizuna greens have a mild mustard flavor.
