There are about 160 varieties of orange. The most important cultivated in Greece are:

Arta: The fruits of this variety are spherical, have a delicate pericarp, a sour taste and are extremely fragrant. They ripen in January.
Valencia: A foreign variety that ripens from March to June and thus allows growers to supply the market with oranges during the summer months. This variety is very durable and easily adapts to many types of soils, and gives delicious oranges of very good quality.
Merlin: A well-known variety with very delicious fruits and juicy, grown in many parts of the world. They are easily recognizable because on the opposite end of the stalk they have a recess like a navel.
Shagwini: It is also called a blood-flesh variety, due to the red flesh of its fruits. They are of foreign origin. Very tasty and juicy fruits give juices rich in vitamins.
Foudele Sultana: Gives large oval fruits with peel that is easily removed, very tasty flesh with rich juice.
Chios: Gives small fruits and ripens from mid-November. The fruit has many spores, gives a little juice and is extremely resistant to transport.
