Its scientific name is Passiflora incarnata and it belongs to the Patathi family.
We also find it with the names: Flower of passion, watch, sufferer, Passion of Christ, teferliki.

Passionflower is a climbing plant, perennial and woody and originates from the tropical forests of Central and South America but is now found in every corner of the globe.

Passionflower contains maltol, flavonoids and paciflorine, which chemically resembles morphine, seretonin and maltol. It also contains alkaloids such as Armin, Armani and Armoli, glycosidic flavones and sterols. The fruit of passionflower, passion fruit contains calcium, iron, niacin (vitamin B3), riboflavin (vitamin B2), sodium, vitamin A and C, β-carotene and fiber, various minerals and fats.

Pasiflora is currently used as a medicinal plant to treat hot flashes, neuralgia and anxiety as well as congenital disorders, melancholy and depression, epilepsy, insomnia, hysteria and other neurogenic disorders as well as for alleviation of withdrawal symptoms in smoking cessation and in cases of alcoholism.

Pasiflora also has analgesic properties and in many countries is used as a compress on a painkiller to relieve headaches, while it also has antispasmodic and muscle relaxant properties and vasodilator (antihypertensive) effects.
